10 Easy Ways to Motivate Yourself to Work Out

If you've been working out for a few weeks, months, or even years with little visible result, it's likely that you will become discouraged. After all, who wants to do the same thing day in and day out without making any progress?

Finding the enthusiasm to work out can be tough, but here are some easy ways to get the motivation you need:

1. Make it a bonding activity. Working out with friends can make your gym sessions much more fun, and you can help to inspire each other to keep going even when you're tired or bored.

2. Shorten your workout. How much time are you spending at the gym? Instead of lifting weights for an hour and running for another hour, shorten your workout by adding in HIIT cardio and resting less between each set. The faster you get through your workout, the better! Just make sure you're doing a workout that counts!

3. Change it up. You're probably bored because you have been doing the same workout over and over for a long time. It's time to switch things up and try a new type of workout, such as swimming, HIIT training, CrossFit, sports, TRX training, etc.

4. Set an achievable goal. If you have the nebulous goal of "lose weight" in mind, you're never going to be satisfied. Instead, set a goal like "lose 5 pounds" or "bench press 150 pounds." It's much more inspiring to actually reach your goals!

5. Join the club. Join a health club, or make your own club with a group of friends/family/co-workers who are interested in getting healthy. You can encourage and motivate each other, and being part of a club makes you accountable to others.

6. Use the right app. There are lots of fitness apps that you can use for your workouts, but look for the ones that will keep you working hard. Some apps charge you money if you don't get in your workout, while others will post it on social media.

It's worth trying!

7. Focus on the healthy lifestyle. Don't treat exercise as something you do because you have to, but see it as something you WANT to do. If you add it to a healthy diet and lifestyle, it will be much easier to stay motivated even if you're not getting results. You can just tell yourself, "I'm doing this to be healthier!"

8. Find your slogan. What gets you to the gym every day? Find that chant/mantra/slogan you can repeat over and over in your head as you work out, and let that drive you.

9. Make it fun. Bring your favorite TV show to watch on the treadmill, or listen to your favorite music/audiobook as you work out. The more fun your workouts are, the more you'll look forward to them.

10. Make it a non-negotiable routine. If exercise is an established part of your day, there's no way you can get out of it. Set it as a non-negotiable appointment in your daily schedule, and never let excuses keep you away from your workout!

Finding motivation can be hard, but that's when it's up to you to kick your own butt and keep yourself working out in order to reach your goals
