Selena Gomez is one of the most popular celebrities in Hollywood right now, having achieved her fame without the aid of on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber.

The 5’5″ starlet is best known for her roles on popular television shows “Hannah Montana” and “Wizards of Waverly Place.” She is also well-known for being a big fan of M&M’s, Kit-Kat bars, Snickers and Goobers, though they no longer make up a significant part of the “Selena Gomez diet.

“I do eat. The problem is I don’t eat right. I love everything that’s possibly not good for me,” she once said in a radio interview with Kidd Kraddick.

Envied for her lack of consistent exercise and indulgent diet, how the star kept her petite figure slim throughout her teenage years is still a mystery. In her young adult years, she seems to be paying more attention however. An incident in 2011 changed how Gomez  took care of her health.

US Weekly reported that after an appearance on The Tonight Show, Gomez complained of nausea and severe headaches, eventually ending up at a nearby hospital for treatment. She was diagnosed with food poisoning and exhaustion, and after she recovered from the illness, Selena Gomez decided to change a few things.

Since that day, the young star made a resolution to improve her lifestyle… and diet was the first step. She is reported to have limited her junk food consumption and mix it up with a few healthier options.

Now the Selena Gomez diet plan, according to Life & Style, looks a little something like this:

  • Breakfast (approximately 250 calories): “I like my mom’s eggs,” Selena Gomez said about her morning favorite. “She makes a mean omelet – she adds mushrooms, onions, cheese, the works.
  • Lunch (approximately 350 calories): “I like to make sure I have protein, so sometimes I’ll eat meat, like turkey, when I’m out or on set,” said Gomez.
  • Dinner (approximately 850 calories): “I actually like to do my dinners Italian – It’s kind of fattening, but it’s my leeway,” she said. “I love lasagna.”
  • Snacks (approximately 300 calories): “Pickles fill you up and aren’t too bad for you,” Gomez said, indicating she loves interesting vegetable choices.

While the Selena Gomez diet still leaves a little to be desired, the star is eating better than she used to.

She indicates a healthier diet and regular exercise have helped improve her overall health.

With her love of junk food, it’s doubtful Gomez will ever completely cut out her favorite snacks, but experts indicate she might be happy and healthy on an 80/20 diet–80 percent unprocessed, whole foods, 20 percent “splurge” foods.

Just like her diet, the so-called “Selena Gomez workout” was a mystery during the star’s teen years.

Recently, however, PopSugar indicates Gomez has been keeping in shape with a workout routine known as Pop Physique, a ballet barre-inspired workout designed to tone the entire body.

Pop Physique blends elements of ballet, Pilates and yoga with light weight work. Classes usually last for an hour and are set to music. The goal is to develop the body of a dancer without the rigorous training a professional must endure. Students perform exercises with the aid of the barre, the horizontal wooden beam ballet dancers use as a balance aid. Movements can be as uncomplicated as stretching or they can involve the use of resistance bands while laying on the floor; every instructor does something a little different.

The Selena Gomez workout routine beyond this activity is unknown, though there have been reports of her being sighted at her local gym. While it seems the actress is taking proactive steps toward living a healthier life, she is a far cry from some of the celebrity fitness gurus in Hollywood, such as Madonna and Jennifer Aniston.
