4 Reasons Why Having a Running Buddy ROCKS!

Do you love fall running as much as I do?

IT FEELS SO GOOD! Since the race I didn’t run, I’ve stuck to my word and have been consistently getting out to run. The cool, crisp weather and beautiful fall colors have helped me get my running mojo back! Hallelujah.

Another thing that’s been awesome lately?

Having a running buddy!

When I was living in Savannah, I pretty much only ran by myself…and I loved it! I still crave solo run time but recently most have my runs have been with Dan, my fiance. And I gotta say…I’m digging it.

Here’s Why Having a Running Buddy (Or Honey!) Rocks

1. Accountability

Did ya say you were gonna run? Well, having a running buddy increases the odds of that actually happening. Dan and I make plans to run and if the other one isn’t feeling it…all it takes is a few words (or sometimes even a look!) to get the other one up and moving. Since we are so busy, we have to plan our runs in advance which makes them OFFICIAL. Setting a date / time / mileage goal with someone is a great way to ensure that the run gets done!

2. Motivation

Dan has been running for, I’d say, 20 years! Through his time as an athlete and all these years in the military, he’s really got some mileage in him! I haven’t been running that long, so it helps me to run with someone who is stronger than me. He pushes me to climb those hills, or sprint at the end, or to simply keep going. And, if he’s having an off day, I want to return the favor so it encourages ME to rally up and set a positive tone, pushing us to complete our running mission!

3.Fun

Running with someone can simply be fun. It is totally possible to laugh hysterically while running and have a singing jam session while running (although your time might be slightly affected. ;)) While I have been known to find MYSELF highly amusing, even I must admit, running with a buddy can up the fun factor a few notches!

4. Healthy Hangout

I love going out to eat or enjoying some wine as the next gal, but I don’t want social situations to always revolve around food or drinking. Yikes! Running with someone is a great way to spend time together without spending money or overindulging. I love run dates for precisely this reason! Next time you go to make plans with someone, consider making your plans revolve around a run instead of going out.

Now, by no means do you have to find yourself an innocent runner pal and attach them to your hip from now on, so don’t you solo runners fret! But, if you’re looking for a running boost, haven’t seen a friend in a while, need a pleasant distraction…go run with others.

Have a great day!
