Run for Your Life: Runners, Do You KT Tape? Here’s Why You Should!

Remember this post about how to prevent injury? Well, luckily, no major injuries to report here but I have been experiencing some minor ankle issue (that’s majorly annoying).

Luckily, my friends at KT Tape came to the rescue and they offered to let me try their product, KT Tape Pro.

I had heard of/seen KT Tape before, but really I had no clue what it actually was.

So…

What IS KT Tape?

According to their website, “KT Tape (Kinesiology Therapeutic Tape) is an elastic sports and fitness tape designed for muscle, ligament, and tendon pain relief and support.”

Ok. Got it!

When I had first heard about KT Tape a while back, I was under the impression it was geared toward pro athletes, or elite runners…but I was mistaken! Anyone can use it. And that means THIS GIRL!KT Tape

Here are a few things to love about KT Tape:

  • 24 hour relief per application
  • water / sweat / humidity proof
  • easy to apply
  • non-intrusive (meaning, you can wear it without being aware every second that you’re wearing it)
  • remain active WHILE recovering / alleviating pain or discomfort – this one is huge!! Score!

So, now that you know more about the product…back to my ankle. I felt this pain a few months back, but ignored it (stupid) and it eventually went away. It had been making a comeback, however, and I wasn’t going to mess around this time! I figured I better turn to KT Tape for some help.

Thankfully, the website provides “how-to” videos that show how to apply the tape to different parts of the body for different purposes. I selected “ankle stability” because all-in-all my left ankle was feeling pretty weak and wishy-washy.

I loved that the website offered videos like this because I was a bit intimidated at first about how to apply the tape! Thank goodness! (You can also download step by step instructions!) Go figure, my ankle situation was probably on the more complicated-side to apply – 3 pieces of tape – but even that was pretty simple.KT Tape

After applying the tape and giving it a good rub, I walked around for a bit just to get a feel for it. It wasn’t too tight, it wasn’t pulling…it was quite comfortable. Also? I dig the way it looks! Recovering in style!

After the application and taking awkward foot photos, I headed out for a light run. My ankle felt great. It felt supported and pain free!

Since then, I’ve worn the KT Tape about every other run. I feel confident knowing that I’m doing something good for my poor little ankle and I’m not just “winging it.” Obviously, if the pain continues or worsens then I need to have it checked out – but it sure is helpful to have the KT Tape so that I can run WHILE recovering. Because we all know how much NOT being able to run stinks.

After wearing the KT Tape, I can tell you that if you’re experiencing any sort of pain or discomfort, I’d give this product a try. (And consult with your doc! Do as I say, not as I do!)
